Dartford Concert Band

Dartford Central Park 2010

On June 20th 2010, the Band was honoured to be invited to play at the official opening of the lovely new Bandstand in Central Park, Dartford.  Here is a photo of the new Edwardian style Bandstand:

The Dartford Borough Council has been doing a fine job of upgrading the park, including the grounds of the ex Wellcome Sports & Social Club. It was fitting that they should name it the Sir Henry Wellcome Bandstand after the famous pharmacist and philanthropist.

The opening by the Council Leader, Jeremy Kite, was very successful and we were also invited to play in the Bandstand at the opening of the 2010 Dartford Festval, and the closing 2010 Sunday Concert.

Since then we have played twice-yearly in the Bandstand.  A particular concert in 2014, given at the request of the Council, commemorated the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War.  One of our members, John Parker, gave a lot of his time to researching and arranging evocative tunes and songs from that time so the band could play as authentically as possible.

We are very grateful to the Council for supporting the Darford Concert Band in this way.
